How Our Free TOEFL Practice Test Works
Our free TOEFL practice test draws questions at random from an original bank covering the four TOEFL iBT sections: Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking. Each set mixes the sections in proportion to the bank, so no two attempts are the same.
Choose a mode before you start. Timed mode gives you 35 minutes for 30 questions, untimed mode removes the clock, and study mode lets you check each answer and read its explanation immediately. You can pick 10 questions, 30 questions or the whole bank, flag questions and jump around with the question navigator.
When you submit, you see your score, your percentage, the time you used and a breakdown by section. The answer review lists every question with the correct answer, an explanation and a “why” note on the rule or strategy behind it.
TOEFL Practice Test Online
This TOEFL practice test runs online in any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer, with no download. If you close the page midway, your unfinished test is saved on your device and you can resume it later. Your last ten results are saved too, so you can track progress over several weeks.
TOEFL Practice Test Online for Free
The test is free with no login, no email and no limit on attempts. Because each set is drawn at random, you can take a TOEFL practice test online for free every few days without seeing the same questions in the same order.
How Long Does a TOEFL Mock Test Take?
A 30-question set takes 35 minutes in timed mode, about 70 seconds per question, and a 10-question set takes about 12 minutes. The real TOEFL iBT takes about 1 hour 30 minutes of testing time. Our test is designed for short, focused sessions; for a full-length run, add official ETS practice material.
What the Real TOEFL Exam Covers
The real TOEFL iBT has four sections in a fixed order: Reading (50 items), Listening (47 items), Writing (12 items) and Speaking (11 tasks), according to ETS. Our TOEFL practice test questions follow the same sections and task names, adapted so they can be answered in a browser.
| Section | Real exam | Our practice test |
|---|---|---|
| Reading | Complete the Words, Read in Daily Life, Read an Academic Passage | Same task types, multiple choice |
| Listening | Choose a Response, Conversation, Announcement, Academic Talk | Same task types, using written transcripts |
| Writing | Build a Sentence, Write an Email, Academic Discussion | Multiple-choice skill items |
| Speaking | Listen and Repeat, Take an Interview | Multiple-choice skill items |
TOEFL Practice Test Reading
Reading questions use the three 2026 task types. Complete the Words gives a short paragraph with missing letters and asks which ending fits; Read in Daily Life uses notices, emails and schedules; and the academic passages test main ideas, details, vocabulary and inference. Each explanation shows the clue in the text.
Listening TOEFL Practice Test
The real Listening section uses audio. Our practice test has no audio: each Listening question shows a written transcript of a conversation, announcement or academic talk, followed by a question in the TOEFL style. This builds your understanding of how the questions work and what the distractors look like, but you should also practice with recorded English to train your ear.
TOEFL Practice Test Speaking
The real Speaking section records your voice, which a browser quiz cannot score. Our Speaking questions are multiple-choice skill items based on Listen and Repeat and Take an Interview: which repetition is accurate, which interview answer is best developed and why. Pair them with recorded speaking practice at home.
Writing TOEFL Practice Test
Writing questions are multiple-choice skill items too. Build a Sentence items ask for the correct word order. Email and Academic Discussion items ask you to pick the response that best meets the task, uses the right tone or supports its opinion, with an explanation of what scorers look for.
TOEFL iBT Practice Test
Our test is a TOEFL iBT practice test for the current version of the exam. Everything in the bank is written for the format ETS introduced on January 21, 2026, so you are not practicing task types that no longer appear.
New TOEFL Practice Test Format
The new TOEFL is shorter and uses adaptive Reading and Listening sections, where your first-stage performance sets the difficulty of the second stage. It is built around short tasks such as Complete the Words, Listen and Repeat and Take an Interview. Our bank focuses on these new tasks.
TOEFL Practice Test 2026
A TOEFL practice test in 2026 should report against today’s scale. The real test now reports a 1–6 band score for each section and overall, with a comparable 0–120 score shown on score reports until January 2028. Materials built for the old format are still useful for vocabulary, but not for timing or task types.
TOEFL Practice Test Scoring Explained
TOEFL has no pass mark: the real test reports a 1–6 band score, and each university sets its own minimum. Our TOEFL practice test online with score therefore reports a percentage and uses a 70% readiness benchmark, labeled as a benchmark on the results screen.
Your percentage is not a TOEFL band score. Use it to see which sections are weakest and whether your results improve over time. To compare TOEFL and IELTS scores, use the TOEFL score converter, and read the TOEFL exam guide for how official scoring works.
Free TOEFL Practice Test With Answers
This is a free TOEFL practice test with answers for every question. The review shows your answer, the correct answer, an explanation and a “why” note, so you learn the reasoning behind each choice. Review questions you got right too, to confirm you chose them for the right reason.
Tips to Pass: How to Practice the TOEFL Test
The best way to practice the TOEFL test is short, regular, timed sessions followed by careful review. Use these steps:
- Take your first set in study mode to learn each task type.
- Switch to timed mode for every later attempt to build speed.
- After each test, write down the task types you missed and review them before the next set.
- Practice speaking aloud and writing timed emails every week alongside the quiz.
- Plan your weeks with the study planner for exams and count down to test day with the exam countdown timer.
