How Our Free PTE Practice Test Works
Our free PTE practice test draws questions at random from an original bank covering the three parts of PTE Academic: Speaking & Writing, Reading and Listening. Each set includes all three parts in proportion to the bank, so every attempt is different.
Choose a mode before you start. Timed mode gives you 35 minutes for 30 questions, untimed mode removes the clock, and study mode lets you check each answer and read the explanation right away. You can choose 10 questions, 30 questions or the whole bank.
When you submit, you see your score, your percentage, the time you used and a breakdown by part. The answer review shows every question with the correct answer, an explanation and a “why” note that explains how that PTE task type is scored.

What the Real PTE Exam Covers
The real PTE Academic exam has 65–75 questions across 22 question types, in three parts taking about 2 hours in total: Speaking & Writing (about 76–84 minutes), Reading (about 23–30 minutes) and Listening (about 31–39 minutes). Our bank follows the same three parts and task names.
Because a browser quiz cannot record your voice or play audio, we adapt some tasks. Speaking and writing tasks become multiple-choice skill items that test what scorers reward, and listening tasks use written transcripts of the recording instead of audio.
PTE Speaking: Describe Image Practice
Describe Image is the speaking task with the most items in our bank. Each one describes a chart or diagram in text and asks which sentence best summarizes it, which detail best supports the main trend, or what a strong response should include. This is describe image PTE practice with answers that teaches you to state the main trend and key figures quickly.
Other speaking items cover Repeat Sentence, Read Aloud, Answer Short Question, Retell Lecture, Respond to a Situation and Summarize Group Discussion. Practice speaking aloud as well, because the real test scores your fluency and pronunciation.
PTE Writing
Writing items cover Summarize Written Text and Write Essay. They ask you to pick the best one-sentence summary, the strongest thesis or the most accurate supporting sentence, with explanations of the content, form and grammar criteria Pearson uses. Pair them with timed essays of your own.
PTE Practice Test Reading
Reading questions use the real PTE Reading task types: Reading & Writing Fill in the Blanks, Reading Fill in the Blanks, Multiple Choice (single and multiple answers) and Reorder Paragraphs. Each passage is original, and each explanation points to the collocation, grammar rule or logical link that decides the answer.
Reading Fill in the Blanks
Fill-in-the-blank tasks are among the most common reading items on PTE. The right word must fit the meaning, the grammar and the usual collocation. Our PTE practice test fill in the blanks items explain why the wrong options fail, which is the fastest way to build the collocation knowledge these tasks reward.
PTE Listening: Write From Dictation
On the real test, Write From Dictation plays a short sentence that you type exactly. Our version shows a written transcript and asks which typed sentence is fully correct, training the spelling, plural endings and small words that cost marks. Other listening items cover Summarize Spoken Text, Highlight Correct Summary, Multiple Choice, Select Missing Word, Highlight Incorrect Words and Fill in the Blanks, all using transcripts.
PTE Mock Test Scoring Explained
The real PTE has no pass mark: it reports an overall score and four skill scores on a 10–90 scale, and each institution sets its own minimum. Our PTE mock test reports a percentage instead and uses a 70% readiness benchmark, labeled as a benchmark on the results screen.
The section breakdown shows how you did in Speaking & Writing, Reading and Listening. Use it to choose what to study next rather than as a predicted PTE score.
PTE Practice Test Score vs Real Score
A practice test score and a real score measure different things. Our percentage shows how many task-type questions you answered correctly, while the real PTE score comes from Pearson’s automated scoring of your actual speech and writing on a 10–90 scale. A rising practice percentage is a good sign, but it cannot be converted into an exact PTE score. To compare scores across tests, see the PTE score to IELTS band calculator and the PTE exam guide.
PTE Practice Test With Answers
Every question comes with the correct answer, an explanation and a “why” note on how that task type is scored. These PTE test sample questions and answers are most useful when you review them carefully: list the task types you miss most and practice them before your next attempt.
Tips to Pass: How to Practice the PTE Test
The best way to practice the PTE test is to learn each question type, then build speed with timed sets and real speaking and typing practice. Follow these steps:
- Take one set in study mode to learn the task types and read every explanation.
- Switch to timed mode for later attempts to build pace.
- After each test, note the task types you missed and practice them on their own.
- Plan sessions with the study planner for exams and count down to test day with the exam countdown timer.
- Keep a deck of collocations from fill-in-the-blank items — you can make flashcards online for this.
How to Practice the PTE Exam at Home
To practice the PTE exam at home, combine our quiz with spoken and typed practice. Use a headset, record yourself reading short passages aloud and describing charts, then listen back for pauses and unclear words. For Write From Dictation, play short sentences from podcasts and type them exactly.
If you are still choosing a test, compare formats with our free IELTS practice test, TOEFL practice test and Duolingo English Test practice, and read about each English proficiency test.
FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
What Is a PTE Practice Test?
A PTE practice test is a set of questions in the style of PTE Academic that helps you learn the task types and find weak areas before test day. Ours draws original items from all three parts of the exam at random, scores them instantly and explains why each answer is right or wrong.
How Much Is a PTE Practice Test?
Our PTE practice test is free. Pearson and other providers sell scored mock tests that use automated scoring on your spoken and written responses, which can be worth buying close to your exam. Use free practice first to learn every task type and its traps.
Why Should You Take a PTE Practice Test Online?
Taking a PTE practice test online gets you used to answering on a screen under time pressure, as you will on test day. It also shows your results by part straight away, so you know whether to focus on speaking and writing, reading or listening before your next session.
Is the PTE Mock Test Free?
Yes, our PTE mock test is free, with no login and no limit on attempts. Each attempt draws a new random set of questions. Some official Pearson practice tests are paid, because they include automated scoring of recorded speaking and typed writing.
