How Our Duolingo English Test Practice Test Works

Our Duolingo English Test practice test draws questions at random from an original bank of Duolingo-style tasks, grouped into four sections: Literacy, Comprehension, Conversation and Production. Each set mixes all four in proportion to the bank, so every attempt is different.

Choose a mode before you start. Timed mode gives you 30 minutes for 30 questions, untimed mode removes the clock, and study mode lets you check each answer and read its explanation immediately. You can choose 10 questions, 30 questions or the whole bank, flag questions and move around with the question navigator.

When you submit, you see your score, your percentage, the time you used and a breakdown by section. The answer review lists every question with the correct answer, an explanation and a “why” note on what that task type tests.

Duolingo English Test Practice Free

This Duolingo English Test practice is free, with no login, no account and no limit on attempts. If you close the page partway through, your unfinished test is saved on your device so you can resume it. Your last ten results are saved too, so you can see whether your scores are improving.

Duolingo English Test Practice Material

All of our Duolingo English Test practice material is original: short paragraphs, conversations, photo descriptions and prompts written for this bank, not copied from the real test. Each question includes a full explanation, so the bank works as study material as well as a quiz.

Duolingo English Test Practice Resources

Use our practice alongside the free official practice test on the Duolingo English Test website, which lets you hear audio and record answers. The Duolingo English Test guide explains the full format, scoring and test-day rules, and you can make flashcards online for vocabulary you miss.

What the Real Duolingo English Test Covers

The real Duolingo English Test is an adaptive test of about one hour: about 5 minutes of setup, a 45-minute graded section and a 10-minute ungraded writing and speaking sample. The graded section alternates reading and listening tasks in its first half and writing and speaking tasks in its second half.

Our practice test covers the same task types, adapted for a browser. Listening tasks use written transcripts instead of audio, and writing and speaking tasks are multiple-choice skill items that show what a strong response looks like.

Read and Complete Practice

Read and Complete gives a paragraph in which some words are missing their final letters. In our version, you choose the letters that correctly complete each word. The explanations show why only one option fits both the meaning and the grammar, which is exactly the check you need to make when you type letters on the real test.

Listen and Type Practice

On the real test, Listen and Type plays a short sentence that you type exactly. Our practice has no audio: it shows a transcript and asks which typed sentence is fully correct, training you to notice small errors in spelling, verb endings and articles. Add listening practice with real audio to build your ear as well.

Fill in the Blanks Practice

Fill in the Blanks items give a sentence with the first letters of a missing word and ask you to complete it correctly. Our Duolingo English Test fill in the blanks practice questions use words that start the same way but differ in meaning, so you must check both spelling and context. Read and Select items in the same section ask which words are real English words.

Writing Practice

Writing practice covers Write About the Photo, Read, Then Write, Interactive Writing and the Writing Sample. Each item asks you to pick the strongest response, the best next sentence or the most effective revision, with explanations of what makes a response detailed, relevant and grammatically accurate. Practice typing your own timed answers too.

Speaking Practice

Speaking practice covers Listen, Then Speak, Read, Then Speak, Read Aloud and Speak About the Photo. Because a browser quiz cannot score your voice, these are multiple-choice items about which spoken answer is strongest and why. Pair them with recorded speaking practice: set a timer, answer a prompt aloud and listen back.

Duolingo English Test Practice Scoring Explained

The real Duolingo English Test reports a score from 10 to 160, with no pass mark; each school sets its own minimum. Our Duolingo English Test practice with score reports a percentage instead and uses a 70% readiness benchmark, labeled as a benchmark on the results screen.

The section breakdown shows how you did in Literacy, Comprehension, Conversation and Production. Use it to decide which task types to practice next.

Duolingo English Test Practice vs Real Test

Duolingo English Test practice and the real test differ in three ways. The real test is adaptive, so difficulty changes with every answer; ours draws a fixed random set. The real test plays audio and records your voice and typing; ours uses transcripts and multiple-choice skill items. And the real test reports a 10–160 score, while ours reports a percentage that cannot be converted into an official score.

Duolingo English Test Practice With Answers

Every question comes with answers and explanations. The review shows your answer, the correct answer, an explanation and a “why” note, so these Duolingo English Test practice questions and answers teach the reasoning, not just the key.

Tips to Pass the Duolingo English Test

There is no pass mark, but these tips help you reach the score your schools require. Most of them come down to knowing each task type well before test day.

  1. Take your first set in study mode to learn every question type.
  2. Switch to timed mode to get used to working quickly.
  3. Review every explanation and list the task types you missed.
  4. Practice speaking and typing your own answers to photo and written prompts.
  5. Plan sessions with the study planner for exams and set a test date with the exam countdown timer.

Duolingo English Test Practice PDF vs Online Practice

A Duolingo English Test practice PDF is handy for reading on the go, but it cannot time you, score you or change the questions. Online practice scores itself, explains every answer and draws a new set each time, so you cannot memorize the order. Use online practice for most of your preparation.

Duolingo English Test Practice for Free Every Day

Short daily sessions work well for this test. A 10-question set takes 10 minutes in timed mode, so you can do Duolingo English Test practice for free every day, including on mobile. If you are still choosing a test, compare formats with our TOEFL practice test, free IELTS practice test and PTE practice test, or read about each English proficiency test.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Is the Duolingo English Practice Test Free?

Yes. Our Duolingo English practice test is free, with no login and no limit on attempts. Duolingo also offers a free official practice test on its website. The certified Duolingo English Test itself costs $70, so practicing for free first is a sensible way to avoid paying for extra attempts.

How Accurate Is the Duolingo English Practice Test?

Our practice test is accurate for learning each question type and finding weak areas, but it does not predict your official 10–160 score. The real test is adaptive and scores your typed and spoken answers. Use our percentage and section breakdown to track progress across several attempts.

How Long Is the Duolingo English Practice Test?

Our 30-question practice set takes 30 minutes in timed mode, one minute per question, and a 10-question set takes 10 minutes. Untimed and study modes have no limit. The real Duolingo English Test takes about one hour, including setup and the 10-minute writing and speaking sample.

How to Take the Duolingo English Practice Test?

Choose timed, untimed or study mode, pick 10, 30 or all questions and press Start Test. Answer each question, flag any you want to revisit and submit. Then read the explanation for every question, note the task types you missed and practice them before your next attempt.

What Is Duolingo English Test Practice?

Duolingo English Test practice means working through questions in the same task types as the real test — such as Read and Complete, Listen and Type and Interactive Reading — so you know what to do on test day. Good practice explains every answer and shows which skills need more work.
