How Our Free Phlebotomy Practice Test Works

Our free phlebotomy practice test draws questions at random from an original bank organized by the five content areas of the NHA CPT exam. Every attempt mixes safety, patient preparation, routine collections, special collections and processing questions, so no two sessions match.

Choose a mode before you start. Timed mode gives you 30 minutes for 30 questions, untimed mode removes the clock and study mode shows the answer and explanation after each question. You can flag questions, jump around with the navigator and answer with the number keys.

Your results show your score, percentage, time used and a breakdown by section. For certifications, fees and the full exam format, see our phlebotomy exam guide.

Phlebotomy Practice Test Questions

Our phlebotomy practice test questions are original, written for this site in the style of national certification exams. Each is a single-answer multiple-choice question with four options, based on real tasks such as identifying a patient, choosing a tube or deciding whether a specimen will be rejected.

Phlebotomy Practice Test With Answers

This phlebotomy practice test with answers includes a full review after you submit. For every question you see your answer, the correct answer, an explanation and a short “why” note on the rule behind it. You can filter the review to show only incorrect or flagged questions.

What the Real Phlebotomy Certification Exam Covers

The NHA CPT exam has 100 scored questions plus 20 pretest questions, with 2 hours to finish. Our phlebotomy practice test for certification uses the same five areas, shown here with the number of scored questions in each on the real exam.

Safety and Compliance

Safety and Compliance accounts for 26 scored questions. A safety and compliance phlebotomy practice test covers standard precautions, hand hygiene, PPE removal, sharps disposal, needlestick exposure, the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, HIPAA, consent and fire and chemical safety.

Patient Preparation

Patient Preparation accounts for 20 questions. It covers requisition review, two-identifier patient identification, fasting and basal state, site selection, sites to avoid, tourniquet application and site cleansing.

Routine Blood Collections and Order of Draw

Routine Blood Collections is the largest area at 28 questions. Expect questions on needle gauge and angle, tube additives, tube fill and inversions, capillary puncture, hematoma and collapsed veins, and the order of draw for both venipuncture and capillary collection.

Special Collections and Processing

Special Collections has 12 questions and Processing has 14. This practice test on phlebotomy covers blood cultures, glucose tolerance tests, therapeutic drug monitoring, chain of custody, chilled and light-sensitive specimens, labeling, centrifugation, aliquoting, transport and specimen rejection.

NHA, NCCT, ASCP and AMCA Practice Tests

The main national certifications test the same core knowledge, so one well-built phlebotomy practice test prepares you for most of them. The differences are in format and scoring, which each body explains in its candidate handbook.

NHA Phlebotomy Practice Test

Our bank follows the NHA CPT 2025 test plan, so it works as an NHA phlebotomy practice test. The real exam passes at a scaled 390 on a 200 to 500 scale, and the exam fee is $134 per attempt.

Phlebotomy Practice Test NCCT

If you are taking the NCCT exam, use this as a phlebotomy practice test for NCCT content: safety, collection technique and processing carry over directly. Check the NCCT handbook for its own question count and passing standard.

ASCP Phlebotomy Practice Test

The ASCP Board of Certification exam for phlebotomy technicians covers the same collection and processing knowledge. Use our questions as an ASCP phlebotomy practice test for shared content, then review the ASCP content guidelines for its format.

AMCA Phlebotomy Practice Test

AMCA candidates can also use this bank as an AMCA phlebotomy practice test. The order of draw, patient identification and safety rules are the same, while the exam format is set by AMCA. The same applies to AMT, NHCO and ASPT phlebotomy practice tests.

Scoring Explained for Multiple-Choice Phlebotomy Questions

The real NHA CPT exam is scaled from 200 to 500, with a passing score of 390, so it has no fixed percentage. Our practice test uses a 70% readiness benchmark for its multiple-choice phlebotomy questions, labelled as a benchmark on the results screen.

Scoring above 70% on several random sets is a good sign that you are ready. Below that, use the section breakdown to choose your next topic. A low processing or special collections score is common and quick to fix with focused review.

Tips to Pass the Phlebotomy Exam

Candidates who pass the phlebotomy exam usually practise in short, frequent sessions, memorize the order of draw cold and read every explanation. Plan your sessions with the study planner and keep your test date in sight with the exam countdown.

Free Phlebotomy Practice Test for NHA Candidates

As a free phlebotomy practice test for NHA candidates, start with study mode to learn each rule, then switch to timed mode. The real exam allows 2 hours for 120 questions, so timed practice helps you settle into a steady pace.

Phlebotomy Practice Test FAQ

Is the Phlebotomy Exam Hard?

The phlebotomy exam is manageable for candidates who complete a training program and study the details. Questions are practical but precise, testing the order of draw, tube additives, sites to avoid and specimen handling. Regular practice tests with explanations are the best way to find and fix weak spots before exam day.

What Is the Passing Score for the Phlebotomy Exam?

On the NHA Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam, you need a scaled score of 390 on a 200 to 500 scale, according to the NHA candidate handbook. NCCT, ASCP and AMCA set their own passing standards. Our practice test uses a 70% readiness benchmark because scaled scores cannot be converted to a fixed percentage.

How Many Questions Are on the Phlebotomy Certification Exam?

The NHA CPT exam has 100 scored questions and 20 unscored pretest questions, with 2 hours to answer them, under the 2025 test plan in use since January 7, 2026. Other certifying bodies use different counts. Our practice test uses 30-question sets, with options for 10 questions or the full bank.

What Questions Are on the Phlebotomy Certification Exam?

The NHA CPT exam asks multiple-choice questions in five areas: Safety and Compliance, Patient Preparation, Routine Blood Collections, Special Collections and Processing. Expect questions on infection control, patient identification, site selection, order of draw, tube additives, blood cultures, labeling and specimen rejection.

How Many Questions Can You Get Wrong on the NHA Phlebotomy Exam?

NHA does not publish a number of questions you can miss, because the CPT exam is scaled and the passing score of 390 accounts for differences in difficulty between versions. Twenty of the 120 questions are unscored pretest items, but you cannot tell which ones, so treat every question as if it counts.
