How Our Free CNA Practice Test Works
Our free CNA practice test draws questions at random from an original bank written in the style of the state nurse aide written exam. Each attempt mixes questions from all three content areas in roughly the same proportion as the real test, so no two sessions are the same.
Pick a mode before you start. Timed mode gives you a fixed time per question based on the real exam’s pace, untimed mode removes the clock, and study mode lets you check each answer and read the explanation immediately. You can flag questions, jump around with the question navigator and use the number keys to answer.
When you submit, you see your score, your percentage, the time you used and a breakdown by section. The answer review lists every question with your answer, the correct answer, an explanation and a “why” note that explains the rule behind it.
CNA Practice Test Free Online
This CNA practice test is free online with no account and no download. It runs in any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer. If you close the page halfway through, your unfinished test is saved on your device and you can resume it later; your last ten results are also kept so you can track progress.
CNA Practice Test 60 Questions
The real NNAAP written exam scores 60 questions. To rehearse at full length, open the question count menu and choose the full bank, then use timed mode. For quick daily practice, a 30-question set takes about 50 minutes in timed mode and is enough to keep your skills sharp.
What the Real CNA Practice Test Exam Covers
The real CNA exam has a written (or oral) knowledge test and a skills evaluation, and you must pass both. The written test asks scenario questions about the nurse aide role; the skills evaluation asks you to perform tasks while an evaluator watches. Our practice test covers the written part; the skill sections below explain how written questions connect to the skills you will perform.
Written Knowledge Test
The written test covers three areas: physical care skills, psychosocial care skills and the role of the nurse aide. Physical care is the largest area. Questions are practical: what to do first when a resident falls, how to protect privacy during bathing, which change in condition must be reported and how to communicate with a resident who has hearing loss.
Clinical Skills Evaluation
During the skills evaluation you complete several randomly selected skills, often including a measurement such as blood pressure, pulse, respirations or urinary output, and always demonstrating infection control such as handwashing. Each skill has critical steps that must be performed correctly. Written practice helps here too, because many questions test the same safety principles.
Basic Nursing Skills
Basic nursing skills include measuring vital signs, recording intake and output, collecting specimens, caring for residents with catheters and recognizing signs that must be reported to the nurse. Practice questions in this area often give a measurement and ask whether it is normal or needs reporting.
Activities of Daily Living
Activities of daily living — bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, grooming and moving — make up a large share of the physical care questions. The correct answer usually protects safety and dignity and encourages independence, such as letting a resident do as much as possible and dressing the weaker side first.
Scoring Explained: Free CNA Practice Test With Answers
Each state sets its own passing standard for the real CNA exam, so there is no single national percentage. Our practice test therefore uses a 70% readiness benchmark, labeled as a benchmark on the results screen. Scoring above it on several different random sets is a good sign that you are ready; scoring below it shows which sections to review.
The section breakdown matters more than the total. If you score well overall but miss most role-of-the-nurse-aide questions, spend your next study session on resident rights, communication and legal topics before taking another test.
CNA Practice Test With Rationales
Every answer in the review comes with a rationale: an explanation of the correct answer and a note on why the other options are wrong. Reading rationales for questions you got right is worthwhile too, because it confirms you chose the answer for the right reason rather than by luck.
Tips to Pass the CNA Exam in 2026
Most candidates who pass the CNA exam on the first attempt follow the same habits: they practise little and often, they learn the reasoning behind each answer, and they rehearse every skill out loud.
Work Through 180 Questions With Answers
Over the two weeks before your exam, aim to answer at least 180 practice questions with answers — six 30-question sets. Use study mode for the first two sets, then timed mode for the rest, and keep a list of every topic you miss.
Take a CNA Practice Test Online Each Week
Taking a CNA practice test online once a week during training shows whether your scores are rising. Plan your weeks with the study planner and count down to your test date with the exam countdown.
CNA Practice Test PDF vs Online Practice
A printed CNA practice test PDF is fine for reading on the go, but online practice scores itself, explains every answer and changes the questions each time, so you cannot memorize the order. Use online practice for most of your preparation and paper notes for quick review.
CNA Practice Test for Free: Sample Questions and Answers
Here is the kind of question you will see. A resident who has had a stroke has weakness on the right side and needs help getting dressed. Which arm should go into the shirt first? The correct answer is the weaker right arm, because putting the affected limb in first and taking it out last needs the least movement and protects the joint.
Another typical question asks what to do when a resident refuses a bath. The correct answer is to respect the refusal, try to find out why, offer an alternative time and report the refusal to the nurse — never to insist or bathe the resident against their wishes. Questions like these test resident rights as much as care skills.
CNA Practice Test Questions and Answers
Our bank also covers infection control (when to wear gloves, the order for removing personal protective equipment), safety (bed in the lowest position, call light within reach), emergencies (choking, falls, fire) and communication (dementia, hearing and vision loss). The more of them you practise, the faster you recognize the safest answer on test day.
CNA Practice Test FAQ
Is the CNA Exam Hard?
The CNA exam is very passable for candidates who finish a state-approved program and practise both parts. The written questions are scenario-based and reward safe, resident-centered choices, and the skills test is strict about critical steps. Taking several practice tests and rehearsing skills aloud is the most reliable way to prepare.
Is the CNA Test Multiple Choice?
Yes, the written part of the CNA test is multiple choice with four answer options per question. The NNAAP also offers an oral version for candidates who have difficulty reading English. The skills evaluation is a hands-on demonstration, not a multiple-choice test.
How Many Questions Are on the CNA Certification Exam?
The NNAAP written exam used in many states has 70 multiple-choice questions, 60 scored and 10 unscored, with 2 hours to complete it, according to the Credentia candidate handbook. Other states’ vendors set their own counts, so check your state handbook. Our practice test lets you choose 10, 30 or the full question bank.
How Many Questions Can You Miss on the CNA Exam?
Each state sets its own passing standard, so the number of questions you can miss depends on where you test. Your state handbook gives the passing score. On our practice test, aim to score well above the 70% readiness benchmark on several attempts before exam day.
Is the CNA Test Easy?
It feels easy for candidates who know resident rights, infection control and safety rules well, and hard for those who rely on common sense alone. Scenario questions often have two reasonable answers, and only one is the safest or most resident-centered. Practice tests train you to spot that difference.
