How Our Free NCLEX-PN Practice Test Works

Our free NCLEX-PN practice test draws questions at random from an original bank written to the NCSBN PN client need categories. Every attempt mixes coordinated care, safety, health promotion, psychosocial and physiological questions, so each session is different.

Pick a mode first. Timed mode gives you 60 minutes for 30 questions, untimed mode removes the clock and study mode reveals the answer and rationale after each question. You can also choose 10 questions for a quick check or the full bank for a longer session, flag questions and answer with the number keys.

Your results show your score, percentage, time used and a breakdown by category. For the full exam format, fees and registration steps, read our NCLEX-PN guide.

NCLEX Practice Questions for Nurses

Like all good NCLEX practice questions for nurses, ours come with full explanations. The answer review shows your answer, the correct answer, an explanation and a short “why” note. A few items are select-all-that-apply; our version states how many options are correct, and you need them all to earn the point.

What the Real NCLEX-PN Covers

The real NCLEX-PN covers eight client need categories: Coordinated Care, Safety and Infection Prevention and Control, Health Promotion and Maintenance, Psychosocial Integrity, Basic Care and Comfort, Pharmacological Therapies, Reduction of Risk Potential and Physiological Adaptation. Our NCLEX practice questions for PN candidates use the same categories, and these are the topics you will meet most often.

Coordinated Care: Leadership and Management

Coordinated Care is the largest category in our bank. Practice NCLEX questions on leadership and management test scope of practice, assigning tasks to unlicensed staff, client rights, advance directives, confidentiality, documentation and handoff reports.

Safety and Infection Prevention and Control

Safety questions cover fall prevention, restraint monitoring, oxygen safety and seizure precautions. Infection control questions ask about the chain of infection, standard precautions, sterile technique and sharps disposal.

Health Promotion: Growth and Development

These questions test developmental stages, car seat and toddler safety, prenatal nutrition, breastfeeding, adult immunizations and self-examination teaching. Some also cover normal aging, a common source of NCLEX practice questions for geriatrics.

Psychosocial Integrity: Psychiatric Nursing

Psychiatric nursing questions ask for the best response to a client with dementia, depression, mania, obsessive-compulsive disorder, an eating disorder or opioid withdrawal. Look for answers that keep the client safe and encourage communication.

Physiological Integrity: Basic Care and Fundamentals

Fundamental NCLEX practice questions cover hygiene, mobility, elimination, intake and output and specimen collection. Physiological Integrity also includes NCLEX practice questions on pharmacology, such as insulin, beta-blockers and eye drops, and NCLEX practice questions for vital signs, postoperative complications and ostomy care.

PN NCLEX Practice Questions Free: Scoring Explained

The real NCLEX-PN has no percentage pass mark. It is pass or fail against a passing standard of −0.18 logits set by NCSBN, and the adaptive exam stops once it is 95% certain of your result. Our practice test uses a 70% readiness benchmark instead, labelled as a benchmark on your results.

Scoring above 70% on several random sets suggests you are on track. The category table matters most: a weak area, such as pharmacology or coordinated care, is what to study before your next attempt.

Practice NCLEX Questions on Prioritization

Prioritization questions ask what to do first or which client to report to the RN first. Apply airway, breathing and circulation, then safety, and remember that unexpected or unstable findings come before expected ones.

Review Answers With Rationale

Reviewing answers with rationale is where most learning happens. Write the rule behind each miss on a card and make flashcards online for normal lab values, drug classes and isolation precautions.

NCLEX-PN Practice Test FAQ

Is NCLEX-PN Harder Than NCLEX-RN?

Neither exam is simply harder; each tests the scope of practice for its license. The NCLEX-PN emphasizes coordinated care, data collection and safe basic and medication care, while the NCLEX-RN adds management of care and more complex judgment. Both use the same adaptive format, 85 to 150 items and a five-hour limit.

What Kind of Questions Are on NCLEX?

The NCLEX uses multiple-choice, select-all-that-apply and Next Generation NCLEX item types such as matrix, drop-down cloze, drag and drop, highlight and bowtie questions. Our practice test uses single-answer and select-all-that-apply questions, which train the same habits of prioritizing and choosing the safest action.

How Many NCLEX Practice Questions Should I Do?

There is no official target. Many PN candidates answer one to two thousand questions over six to eight weeks, in daily sets of 50 to 100. Reviewing every rationale and fixing your weakest client need category is more valuable than chasing a large number.

What to Bring to the NCLEX-RN Exam?

Bring one acceptable, valid government-issued ID with a name that exactly matches your NCLEX registration, and leave phones, watches and bags in the locker provided. Check-in includes a photograph, signature and palm vein scan. The rules are the same for the NCLEX-PN, so practical nursing candidates should prepare in exactly the same way.
