How Our Free CompTIA A+ Practice Test Works
Our free CompTIA A+ practice test draws questions at random from an original bank written for the V15 Core 1 and Core 2 objectives. Each attempt mixes all nine domains, so every session is different and you cannot memorize the order.
Pick a mode before you start. Timed mode gives you 30 minutes for 30 questions, the same one-minute pace as the real 90-question, 90-minute exams. Untimed mode removes the clock, and study mode shows the answer and explanation right after each question. You can also choose a shorter 10-question set or the full bank.
CompTIA A+ Practice Test With Answers
When you submit, you see your score, percentage, time used and a breakdown by domain. The answer review lists every question with your choice, the correct answer, an explanation and a “why” note on the wrong options. That makes it a true CompTIA A+ practice test with answers, not just a score.
Take the CompTIA A+ Practice Test Free Online
The test is free online, with no account and no download. It runs on a phone, tablet or computer. If you close the page mid-test, your progress is saved on your device so you can resume, and your last ten results are stored so you can track improvement.
What the CompTIA A+ Core 1 and 2 Exams Cover
The CompTIA A+ certification requires two exams. Core 1 (220-1201) covers hardware, mobile devices, networking, virtualization and troubleshooting. Core 2 (220-1202) covers operating systems, security, software troubleshooting and operational procedures. Our question bank follows the same nine domains, so you can use it as a CompTIA A+ practice test for Core 1 and 2 together.
Core 1 (220-1201) Practice Questions
Core 1 has five domains: Mobile Devices (13%), Networking (23%), Hardware (25%), Virtualization and Cloud Computing (11%) and Hardware and Network Troubleshooting (28%). Networking questions focus on ports, protocols, Wi-Fi standards and SOHO setup. Virtualization questions ask about hypervisors and cloud service models.
Mobile Devices
Mobile device questions cover laptop components, display types, accessories, connection methods and synchronization. Expect items such as choosing the right replacement part for a laptop, configuring email on a phone or picking the correct wireless connection for a peripheral.
Hardware and Troubleshooting
Hardware and troubleshooting together make up more than half of Core 1. Questions ask you to choose RAM or storage types, match connectors to cables, and diagnose symptoms such as a laptop that will not power on, a printer with streaked output or a PC that loses network access. Learn CompTIA’s six-step troubleshooting methodology, since many answers depend on the correct next step.
Core 2 (220-1202) Practice Questions
Core 2 has four domains: Operating Systems (28%), Security (28%), Software Troubleshooting (23%) and Operational Procedures (21%). Questions test Windows tools and command-line utilities, malware removal steps, user account and permission settings, backup methods and safe work practices. This is the CompTIA A+ 1202 practice test material most candidates find hardest.
CompTIA A+ Practice Test Scoring Explained
The real A+ exams use a scaled score from 100 to 900, with a passing score of 675 for Core 1 and 700 for Core 2. Because the score is scaled, CompTIA does not publish a fixed percentage. Our test therefore uses a 75% readiness benchmark, clearly labeled on the results screen.
Scoring above 75% on several different random sets is a good sign you are ready. Look closely at the domain breakdown: a strong total can hide a weak domain that would cost you on the real exam.
Performance-Based Questions
The real exams also include performance-based questions, where you complete a task such as configuring a setting or ordering troubleshooting steps. Our test does not simulate those interactive tasks, but its scenario questions practise the same knowledge. Budget extra time for PBQs on exam day and flag any that stall you.
Tips to Pass the CompTIA A+ in 2026
Candidates who pass both cores in 2026 tend to follow the same habits: they study one domain at a time, practise little and often, and make sure every resource targets the V15 objectives.
- Take one baseline test to find your weakest domains.
- Study those domains first, then retest with a new random set.
- Switch to timed mode for the last two weeks.
- Plan the weeks with the study planner and track your booking with the exam countdown.
CompTIA A+ Practice Test PDF for Offline Review
A CompTIA A+ practice test PDF is handy for reading on the go, but it cannot time you, score you or shuffle questions. Use online practice for scored sessions and keep a short page of notes, such as port numbers and Windows commands, for offline review.
CompTIA A+ Practice Test Questions and Answers Review
Review every question after each attempt, including the ones you got right. Write down the topic of each miss and reread the matching section of the CompTIA A+ exam guide or your study book before your next CompTIA A+ mock test.
Drill With CompTIA A+ Practice Test Flashcards
Acronyms and port numbers are easy points if you know them cold. Our CompTIA A+ flashcards use spaced repetition, so you review the cards you miss more often. When you move on, the CompTIA Network+ practice test and CompTIA Security+ practice test build on the same foundations.
CompTIA A+ Practice Test FAQ
What Is the CompTIA A+ Practice Test?
A CompTIA A+ practice test is a set of exam-style questions that mirrors the topics and style of the Core 1 and Core 2 exams. Ours draws original questions at random from all nine V15 domains, scores you against a 75% readiness benchmark and explains every answer, so you can see which domains need more study before you book.
Are CompTIA Practice Exams Free?
Many are. CompTIA sells official practice products, while independent sites offer free practice questions of varying quality. This CompTIA A+ practice test is free, needs no account or download and runs in any modern browser. Check that any free set you use targets 220-1201 and 220-1202, not an older series.
Are CompTIA Practice Exams Worth It?
Yes, if you use them to find and fix weak areas. Practice exams build pacing, expose domains you have skipped and train you to read scenario questions carefully. They are less useful if you repeat the same set until you memorize the answers, so use random sets and read every explanation.
How Many Questions Are on the CompTIA A+ Exam?
Each A+ exam has a maximum of 90 questions in 90 minutes, and the certification requires two exams: Core 1 (220-1201) and Core 2 (220-1202). Our timed mode keeps the same pace of one minute per question, so a 30-question set takes 30 minutes.
What Kind of Questions Are on the CompTIA A+?
The real exams mix multiple-choice questions with one or more correct answers, drag-and-drop items and performance-based questions that simulate a task. Our practice test uses single-answer and multiple-answer multiple-choice questions, many written as short troubleshooting scenarios like those on the exam.
Is the A+ Exam Hard?
It is manageable but broad. The exams span hardware, networking, cloud, four operating systems, security and procedures, and Core 2 needs a higher scaled score than Core 1. Most candidates who study each domain and score consistently above a safe benchmark on practice tests pass on the first attempt.
