How Our SAT Math Practice Tests Work
Our SAT math practice tests draw questions at random from an original bank of 84 questions written in the style of the digital SAT. Every set is balanced across the four Math content areas in proportion to the bank, so Algebra and Advanced Math appear most often, just like on the real test.
Choose timed, untimed or study mode. Timed mode gives you about 96 seconds per question, close to the real pace of 44 questions in 70 minutes. Study mode reveals the answer and a worked solution after each question. When you submit, you get a score, a percentage and a breakdown by content area.
Online SAT Practice Test Math Modules
The real SAT splits Math into two 35-minute modules of 22 questions. To mirror one online SAT practice test math module, choose 30 questions in timed mode, which takes 48 minutes. For a shorter warm-up, choose 10 questions, or choose all 84 to work through the whole bank.
Free SAT Math Practice Test
This free SAT math practice test needs no account and no download. It runs in any browser, saves an unfinished test on your device so you can resume after a reload, and keeps your last ten results so you can track progress.
SAT Math Practice With Desmos
SAT math practice with Desmos is worth building into every session, because Desmos is built into Bluebook. Keep the free Desmos graphing calculator open in another tab while you practise. Graph both sides of an equation to find solutions, find the vertex of a parabola or check a system by its intersection point.
What the Real SAT Math Section Covers
The SAT Math section has 44 questions in 70 minutes, scored 200–800. It covers four content areas, and you can use a calculator throughout. Our bank follows the same four areas, so your section breakdown maps directly to the real test.
Algebra
Algebra questions test linear equations, linear inequalities, linear functions and systems of two equations. A typical question gives an equation and asks for an expression, such as 6x − 4, rather than x itself. Read the last line carefully before you answer.
Advanced Math
Advanced Math covers nonlinear equations and functions, including quadratics, exponentials, polynomials and radicals. Expect to rewrite expressions in equivalent forms, find zeros and interpret the parts of a function in a real-world context.
Problem-Solving and Data Analysis Practice Problems
These SAT math practice problems cover ratios, rates, percentages, unit conversions, probability and statistics such as mean, median and margin of error. Many use tables or graphs. Geometry and Trigonometry, the fourth area, covers area, volume, lines, angles, triangles, circles and right-triangle trigonometry.
How Many SAT Math Questions Are There?
There are 44 SAT Math questions, split into two modules of 22, with 35 minutes per module. Most questions are multiple choice, and roughly a quarter are student-produced responses where you type the answer.
SAT Math Practice Test Scoring Explained
Our SAT math practice test with score reports your number correct, a percentage, a result against a 70% readiness benchmark and an estimated Math score from 200 to 800. The estimate is 200 plus 600 times your share of correct answers, rounded to the nearest 10. It is based on your percentage correct, not an official score, because the real digital SAT is adaptive. SAT Math has no pass mark, so the benchmark is labeled as a readiness target. For a fuller estimate, enter your result in the math SAT score calculator.
SAT Math Practice Questions and Answers
The answer review lists every SAT math practice question and answer with a worked solution and a “why” note explaining the common traps. These SAT math practice problems with explanations show both the fastest route and why each wrong option looks tempting.
SAT Math Practice Test With Answers PDF
We do not offer an SAT math practice test with answers PDF, because online practice can score itself, explain every answer and give you a new set each time. If you want something on paper, write each missed question and its rule in a notebook, which works better than rereading a printed answer key.
Tips to Score Higher: SAT Math Tips and Tricks
The best SAT math tips and tricks are about habits, not shortcuts. Practise a little every day, review every miss and learn when to use Desmos. Plan your weeks with the study planner for exams.
Hardest SAT Math Practice Test
The hardest SAT math practice test questions are usually multi-step Advanced Math and data problems. Once your percentage is consistently above the benchmark, use the official Bluebook tests, where a strong first module leads to a harder second one.
Digital SAT Math Practice Test Strategy
In a digital SAT math practice test, flag questions that will take more than two minutes and come back to them. There is no penalty for wrong answers, so never leave a question blank. Check that your answer matches what the question asked for, such as units or the value of an expression.
Online SAT Math Practice Every Day
Ten to twenty minutes of online SAT math practice every day builds speed. Keep formulas and common algebra moves in a deck you can make flashcards online with, and count down to test day with the exam countdown timer.
SAT Practice Test for Math vs the Full SAT
An SAT practice test for math lets you focus on one section, but the real exam starts with Reading and Writing and ends with Math after a 10-minute break. Switch between this page and the full SAT practice test, which mixes both sections, at least once a week.
SAT Practice Test Math Timing
On the real SAT you get 35 minutes per Math module, about 95 seconds per question. Our timed mode uses the same pace. If you often run out of time, practise in timed mode, and if you rush and make careless errors, slow down in study mode first.
Free Math SAT Practice Test Sets
Every free math SAT practice test set is drawn at random, so you can take as many as you like. Pair them with our SAT reading and writing practice to keep both sections sharp, and read the SAT test guide for registration and test day details. If you are comparing exams, see the ACT and SAT practice test hub.
FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Is SAT Math Hard?
SAT Math is manageable if you are solid on Algebra 1, Algebra 2 and basic geometry, because the content stays within those courses. What makes it feel hard is pacing, multi-step word problems and the harder second module that follows a strong first module. Regular timed practice and good Desmos habits make the biggest difference.
Can You Use a Calculator on SAT Math?
Yes. A calculator is allowed on every question of the digital SAT Math section. Bluebook includes a built-in Desmos graphing calculator, and you can also bring an approved handheld calculator. Many questions are still faster by hand, so practise deciding which approach to use.
Are SAT Math Questions Multiple Choice?
Most are. The majority of SAT Math questions are multiple choice with four options, and roughly a quarter are student-produced responses where you type your own answer. Our practice bank uses four-option multiple choice for every question, so practise a few typed-answer problems from official materials as well.
What Math Should I Practice for the SAT?
Practise linear equations and inequalities, systems, functions, quadratics, exponentials, percentages, ratios, basic statistics, area and volume, circles and right-triangle trigonometry. Algebra and Advanced Math carry the most questions, so start there, then fill gaps in data analysis and geometry. Your section breakdown shows which area to study next.
Which SAT Math Section Is Harder?
The second Math module is usually harder for students who do well in the first, because the digital SAT is adaptive. A strong first module routes you to a harder second module, which is needed to reach the top of the 200–800 scale. A weaker first module leads to an easier second module with a lower score ceiling.
Do SAT Math Questions Get Harder?
Yes, within each module the Math questions generally get harder as you go, and the second module can be harder overall if you did well in the first. Do not spend too long on early questions, and save time for the multi-step problems that come near the end.
