How Our Free Online GED Practice Test Works

Our free online GED practice test draws questions at random from an original bank covering all four GED subjects. Each attempt is a new mix, so you can retake it as often as you like without seeing the same set in the same order.

Choose a mode before you start. Timed mode gives you about two minutes per question, untimed mode removes the clock, and study mode shows the answer and explanation right after each question. You can flag questions to revisit and move around with the question navigator.

If you close the page partway through, your unfinished test is saved on your device and you can resume it when you return. Your last ten results are also stored on your device, so you can watch your scores improve.

Online Free GED Practice Test Format

This online free GED practice test uses multiple-choice questions in the style of the real exam: word problems, reading passages, editing items, data tables and short source documents. You can pick 10 questions, a standard 30-question set or the full bank of 89 questions.

There is no account to create and no download. It works on a phone, tablet or computer.

Free GED Practice Test With Score

When you submit, you get a free GED practice test with score details: number correct, percentage, time used and a breakdown by subject. That breakdown shows whether to spend your next study session on Math, Reasoning Through Language Arts, Science or Social Studies.

What the Real GED Test Covers

The real GED test has four separate subject tests, each scored from 100 to 200, and you need 145 on every one to pass. Our practice questions follow the same four subjects. The GED test guide covers format, time limits and registration in full.

Mathematical Reasoning

The Math test lasts 115 minutes and covers quantitative problem solving (fractions, percentages, ratios, statistics) and algebra (equations, inequalities, functions and graphs), plus basic geometry. Our GED practice test math questions are written as word problems, because that is how most real items are framed. A mathematics GED practice test session is the best place to start if algebra feels rusty.

Reasoning Through Language Arts

Reasoning Through Language Arts lasts 150 minutes, including a 45-minute essay. Our GED practice test language arts questions cover reading comprehension, main idea, inference and argument, plus grammar, usage and punctuation. Practise the essay separately, since our test does not grade written responses.

Science

The Science test lasts 90 minutes and covers life science, physical science, and Earth and space science. Most questions ask you to read a chart, experiment or short passage and draw a conclusion, so a free GED practice test science session trains data reading as much as content.

Social Studies

The Social Studies test lasts 70 minutes and focuses on civics and government, with US history, economics and geography. Our social studies GED practice test free questions use short documents, quotes and data, just as the real test does.

GED Practice Test Scores Explained

Your GED practice test scores show the percentage of questions you answered correctly, overall and for each subject. Because the real GED is scaled from 100 to 200 and GED Testing Service does not publish a raw-to-scaled table, we do not convert your percentage to a GED score.

Instead, the results screen compares you with a 70% readiness benchmark, clearly labeled as a benchmark. Scoring above it on several different random sets is a good sign. Scoring below it in one subject tells you exactly where to focus.

GED Practice Test With Answer Key

The answer review works as a GED practice test with answer key built in. Every question shows your answer, the correct answer, an explanation and a short “why” note on the rule behind it. Read the explanations for questions you got right too, to confirm you were not guessing.

Tips to Pass Using GED Practice Test Questions

GED practice test questions work best when you use them to find and fix weak spots, not just to collect scores. These habits help:

  • Take one 30-question timed set a week and note your subject breakdown.
  • Book the subject you are strongest in first, pass it and build momentum.
  • Plan your weeks in the study planner and track your test date with the exam countdown.
  • Turn math formulas and civics terms into a deck to make flashcards online.
  • Learn general test taking strategies, such as eliminating wrong answers first.

Review Free GED Practice Test and Answers

After each attempt, review your free GED practice test and answers before starting another set. Sort the questions you missed by subject and topic, and reread that topic before your next session. This turns every mistake into a lesson.

Start With a GED Practice Test Sample

A GED practice test sample of 10 questions in study mode is a gentle first step. It shows you the style of the questions without the pressure of a timer. Move to 30-question timed sets once you feel comfortable.

GED Practice Test Examples by Subject

Here are GED practice test examples of what to expect. In Math, a typical item asks you to find the total cost after a 15% discount and sales tax. In Science, you may read a table of plant growth under different light levels and choose the conclusion it supports. In Social Studies, you might identify which constitutional principle a quotation describes.

GED Practice Test Free 2026

This GED practice test is free for 2026 and written for the current four-subject GED. Questions are original and follow the four current subject areas, so you are not practising with outdated five-test material.

Free GED Practice Test With Answers

Every question in this free GED practice test with answers includes a full explanation. Many people search for a free GED practice test with answers PDF, but an online test scores itself, explains each answer and changes the questions every time, so you cannot simply memorize an answer list.

Free GED Practice Test FAQ

Does the GED Practice Test Give You a Score?

Yes. Our GED practice test gives you a score as a percentage, the number correct and a breakdown by subject as soon as you submit. It does not convert your result to the 100–200 GED scale, because that conversion is not published. The official GED Ready test reports a predicted result for each subject.

Can You Take the GED Practice Test Online?

Yes. Our GED practice test runs online in any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer, with no account or download. The official GED Ready practice test is also taken online through your GED account, and a recent green GED Ready score is required before you can take the real GED online at home.

How Many Questions Are on the GED Practice Test?

On our practice test you choose: 10 questions for a quick check, 30 for a standard session or all 89 questions in the bank. Each set mixes all four subjects. The real GED has a separate test for each subject, and GED Testing Service publishes the details on ged.com.

Is There a Free GED Practice Test?

Yes, this page is a free GED practice test with answers. There is no sign-up, no limit on attempts and every question includes an explanation. Use it for regular practice, then consider the paid official GED Ready test shortly before you book your real test date.

Is the GED Practice Test Hard?

It is designed to match the level of the real GED, so it should feel challenging but fair. Math and language arts questions are usually the hardest for most people. If you consistently score above the 70% readiness benchmark across different random sets, you are on track.
