How Our Free ASVAB Practice Test Works
Our free ASVAB practice test draws questions at random from an original bank of 94 items covering every ASVAB content area. Each attempt mixes subtests, so no two sessions are the same, and the questions are written for this site rather than copied from the real test.
Pick a mode before you start. Timed mode gives you 45 minutes for 30 questions, untimed mode removes the clock, and study mode lets you check each answer and read the explanation immediately. You can flag questions, jump around with the question navigator and use the number keys to answer.
When you submit, you see your score, your percentage, the time you used and a breakdown by subtest. The answer review lists every question with your answer, the correct answer, an explanation and a “why” note that explains the rule behind it.
Take the ASVAB Practice Test Online
Take the ASVAB practice test online in any modern browser, with no account and no download. If you close the page halfway through, your unfinished test is saved on your device and you can resume it later. Your last ten results are also kept, so you can see your scores rise over weeks of study at home.
Free ASVAB Practice Test With Score
This free ASVAB practice test with score shows results instantly: your total percentage plus a percentage for each subtest you answered. That subtest breakdown is the most useful part, because it tells you whether to spend your next session on math, vocabulary or technical topics.
Full ASVAB Practice Test or Short Sets
For a full ASVAB practice test, choose all 94 questions in timed or untimed mode. For daily study, a 30-question timed set is enough to keep pacing sharp, and a 10-question set works for a quick review. Many applicants combine both: short sets during the week and a full run at the weekend.
What the Real ASVAB Covers
The real CAT-ASVAB has 10 subtests, with 15 scored questions each except Paragraph Comprehension, Auto Information and Shop Information, which have 10. Four subtests form the AFQT, which decides enlistment eligibility, and the rest feed line scores for job qualification. Our ASVAB practice test questions cover the same content in nine areas, with Auto and Shop combined.
ASVAB Arithmetic Reasoning Practice
Arithmetic Reasoning tests word problems involving rates, percentages, ratios, averages and money. It is part of the AFQT. Our practice questions show the full working in each explanation, and you solve them without a calculator, just as on the real test.
ASVAB Math Knowledge Practice
Mathematics Knowledge covers algebra, exponents, fractions, square roots and geometry such as area, perimeter and angles. It is part of the AFQT. If your math and English scores are uneven, prioritize math, because two of the four AFQT subtests are math.
ASVAB Word Knowledge Practice
Word Knowledge asks you to pick the word closest in meaning to a given word, sometimes in a sentence. It is part of the AFQT. Build a vocabulary deck with the flashcards online maker for the words you miss.
ASVAB Paragraph Comprehension Practice
Paragraph Comprehension asks about the main idea, details and inferences in short passages. It is part of the AFQT and is combined with Word Knowledge into the verbal expression score, which counts double.
ASVAB General Science Practice
General Science covers life science, earth and space science and physical science at a high school level. Questions are short and factual, so regular review of basics pays off quickly.
ASVAB Mechanical Comprehension Practice
Mechanical Comprehension tests levers, pulleys, gears, pressure and forces. For extra questions on the same principles, use our mechanical aptitude test.
ASVAB Electronics Information Practice
Electronics Information covers current, voltage, resistance, circuits and common components. Learn Ohm’s law and how series and parallel circuits differ, since many questions build on them.
ASVAB Auto and Shop Practice
Auto and Shop questions cover engine systems, maintenance and diagnosis, plus hand tools, fasteners and shop practices. On the real test these are two separate subtests with 10 questions each.
ASVAB Assembling Objects Practice
Assembling Objects tests spatial reasoning: which picture shows parts correctly connected or shapes correctly fitted together. Work methodically by matching one connection point at a time.
Scoring Explained: ASVAB Practice Test With AFQT Score
The real ASVAB has no pass mark. It reports your AFQT as a percentile from 1 to 99, compared with a 1997 norm group of 18 to 23 year olds. The AFQT combines Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge and twice your verbal expression score from Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension.
Our practice test does not produce an official AFQT, because that requires the national norm tables. Instead, it shows your percentage correct overall and for each subtest, measured against a 70% readiness benchmark that is labeled as a benchmark on the results screen. Watch your four AFQT subtests closely: steady scores above the benchmark on Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge, Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension are the best sign that your AFQT will be competitive.
ASVAB Practice Test for Every Branch
Every branch uses the same ASVAB, so one ASVAB practice test for the military prepares you for all of them. What differs is the minimum AFQT for enlistment and the line scores each branch requires for particular jobs. The figures below come from each branch’s official recruiting site; confirm them with a recruiter before you test.
ASVAB Practice Test for the Air Force
The Air Force requires an AFQT of at least 31 for high school seniors and graduates and 50 for GED holders. Many Air Force jobs also require minimum scores in its own composite areas, so strong technical subtests widen your choices.
ASVAB Practice Test for Army
The Army’s minimum AFQT is 31. Army jobs also use line scores such as the General Technical (GT) score, which combines verbal expression and arithmetic reasoning. A free ASVAB practice test for Army preparation should therefore give extra time to math and verbal work.
ASVAB Practice Test for the Navy
The Navy does not publish a single minimum AFQT on its recruiting site, so ask a recruiter for the current standard. Navy ratings have their own line-score requirements, and many technical ratings rely on math, electronics and mechanical subtests.
ASVAB Practice Test Marine Corps
The Marine Corps lists a minimum AFQT of 31. Marine jobs use their own composite scores, so use the subtest breakdown in your results to strengthen the areas linked to the jobs you want.
ASVAB Practice Test for Coast Guard
The Coast Guard’s minimum AFQT is 32. Coast Guard ratings also have line-score requirements, which a recruiter can match to your results.
ASVAB Practice Test for National Guard
National Guard applicants take the same ASVAB as active-duty applicants. Ask your Army National Guard or Air National Guard recruiter for the current minimum AFQT and job requirements, and prepare with the same practice sets.
Tips to Pass the ASVAB Practice Test
To score well on the ASVAB practice test and the real test, find your weakest subtests early, study them in short focused sessions and practise under time pressure. Plan your weeks with the study planner for exams and keep your test date in view with the exam countdown.
Take a Pre ASVAB Practice Test as a Baseline
Take a pre ASVAB practice test before you start studying, ideally the full bank in untimed mode. Your subtest percentages show where you stand and which areas need the most time. Keep this first result so you can measure progress later.
Repeat Each Practice ASVAB Practice Test Section
Repeat each practice ASVAB practice test section until your scores are consistent. Use study mode to learn from explanations, then timed mode to build speed. If math is weak, add sets from our numerical reasoning test and our aptitude test practice.
Compare With the Official ASVAB Practice Test
Compare your results with the official ASVAB practice test material on the official ASVAB website, run by the Department of Defense. Official samples show the exact question style, while our larger original bank gives you more repetitions. Read our ASVAB test guide for the full format, scoring and retest rules, or explore other aptitude test formats.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the ASVAB Practice Test Harder Than the Real One?
Not necessarily. Practice tests vary in difficulty, and the real CAT-ASVAB adapts to you, so it gets harder as you answer correctly. Our questions aim for the same level as the content the ASVAB tests. Judge readiness by consistent section scores across several attempts, not by how hard one test feels.
Is the ASVAB Practice Test Accurate?
Our ASVAB practice test accurately reflects the subtests and the kinds of questions you will see, but no unofficial test can predict your exact AFQT. Official percentiles come from a national norm group that practice sites do not reproduce. Use your section percentages to find weak areas and track improvement.
Is the ASVAB Practice Test Timed?
Our ASVAB practice test is timed if you choose timed mode, which gives 45 minutes for 30 questions. You can also choose untimed mode or study mode, which shows each answer and explanation as you go. The real CAT-ASVAB times every subtest separately.
How Many Questions Are on the ASVAB Practice Test?
You choose: 10 questions for a quick drill, 30 for a standard timed set or all 94 questions in our bank for a full review. The real CAT-ASVAB has 135 scored questions across 10 subtests, according to the official ASVAB program, plus any unscored tryout items.
How Long Is the ASVAB Practice Test?
A standard 30-question set takes up to 45 minutes in timed mode, and a 10-question drill takes about 15. The real CAT-ASVAB takes about one and a half hours on average, according to the official ASVAB fact sheet, and tryout questions can add time.
How Do You Calculate an ASVAB Practice Test Score?
Our practice test score is your number of correct answers divided by the number of questions, shown as a percentage and by subtest. The official AFQT combines Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge and twice the verbal expression score from Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension, then converts that total to a 1–99 percentile.
Is the ASVAB Practice Test the Same as the Actual Test?
No, practice tests use their own questions, because the real ASVAB items are secure. Ours are original questions written to match the content and style of each subtest. The actual CAT-ASVAB also differs in format: it is adaptive, times each subtest and does not let you return to earlier questions.
